iPads for learning

We believe that tablet technology, when used appropriately, can significantly enhance students' learning. iPads can be engaging and exciting to use and can open up new ways of working: they enable students to research, collaborate,  create and organise their thinking in ways that would be difficult or even impossible with more traditional methods of teaching.

Alongside the use of new technologies we still place great value on more traditional methods of teaching. Our philosophy is that teachers will select teaching methods, old and new, that have the most positive impact on students' learning.

At Langley Grammar School iPads are currently used by students from Year 8 through to Year 12, with roll outs for students in Year 7 planned for later this year.

This page provides links to background information about our iPad project and addresses frequently asked questions.

Useful information about the use of iPads at LGS

  • The presentation given to parents by Mr Constable and Mr Mace on 11 October 2016.
  • The prices for leasing an iPad over 24 months or by a single payment through WestWon and Burnetts.
  • A range of answers to frequently asked questions
  • LGS suppliers: Jigsaw24 - with whom our students have given a number of presentations both at the school and at Bucks New University
  • Please note that for students in years 9-11, iPads were puchased through WestWon.  For students in years 8 and 12 (September 2015 onwards), iPads were financed through CIG and Burnetts. There are slightly different processes in place for managing each group.

What do I do if a Westwon iPad needs repairing? (Years 9-11)

  1. Log in to the Westwon portal and follow the instructions. You can call WestWon on 01494 611 465. Please arrange all pickup and deliveries to be done through the school.
  2. Download the 1st form below or, alternatively, collect from Student Support.
  3. Please bring the iPad to reception (first thing in the morning) together with the completed form. The form will need to be signed by whoever is on reception, and then taken to the ICT technicians, who will start the process of setting up a temporary iPad to use. The ICT technicians will also contact you when the repaired iPad is back in school.

What do I do if a Burnetts/Jigsaw iPad needs repairing? (Years 8, 9,12 and 13)

If your iPad is physically damaged:

  •  You should complete the Burnetts Making a Claim Online form.  The password for the portal is ‘Langley Grammar School’.  On successful completion of the Claims Guide you will be issued with  Burnetts claim number.
  • Complete the Returning a Damaged iPad form and ask your son or daughter to bring the form directly to the ICT technicians together with the damaged iPad.  You should not arrange for the Ipad to be collected from your home or work address.  The ICT Technicians do not require the case so you should retain that.
  • The ICT technicians will send the damaged iPad to the repair company and issue a pool iPad to your son or daughter, which they may bring home with them unless they choose not to.
  • When the iPad is repaired (or replaced) it will be returned to the ICT Technicians who will set the device up and arrange to return it to your son or daughter in exchange for the pool iPad.

If your iPad is faulty and you need to claim on the warranty:

  • Your son or daughter should take the iPad to the ICT Technicians who will do some basic troubleshooting to try and resolve the problem.
  • If the ICT team cannot resolve the problem they will send the faulty iPad for repair (or replacement).  They will ask your son or daughter to complete a Temporary Pool iPad form and issue a pool iPad to your son or daughter which they may bring home with them unless they choose not to.
  • When the iPad is repaired (or replaced) it will be returned to the ICT Technicians who will set the device up and arrange to return it to your son or daughter in exchange for the pool iPad.

       If your iPad is stolen:

  • You should complete the Burnetts Making a Claim Online form.  The password for the portal is ‘Langley Grammar School’ and you will need to have reported the theft to the police and provide the crime reference number.  On successful completion of the Claims Guide you will be issued with  Burnetts claim number.
  • Your son or daughter should inform the ICT Technicians that their iPad has been stolen and pass them the Burnetts claim number.
  • The ICT Technicians will ask your son or daughter to complete a Temporary Pool iPad form and issue a pool iPad which they may bring home with them unless they choose not to.
  • When the stolen iPad is replaced it will be sent directly to the ICT Technicians who will set the device up and arrange to pass it to your son or daughter in exchange for the pool iPad.

What do I do if my own iPad needs repairing?

  1. Download the 3rd form below or, alternatively, collect from student support. Complete this and ask your parents to sign it.
  2. Please take the complete form to the ICT technicians. They will create a school-based pool iPad to use in school only.
  3. When your iPad is repaired and you no longer need a school-based iPad, please let the technicians know and they will wipe the device.

What do I do if my iPad charger is broken?

  1. Download the form below or, alternatively, collect from Student Support. Complete this and ask your parents to sign it.
  2. Before you bring it to school, unless it is your own charger, you should have contacted WestWon/Jigsaw. If it is your own charger, then you can replace it from many different stores.
