A Level

Students studying the subject at A Level follow the OCR (MEI) specification B. Some students also complete a second A Level qualification in Further Mathematics. During the course the following topics are covered.

Year 12 Year 13

Students studying A Level Maths study:

Core Maths
Algebra, curve sketching, trigonometry, calculus, co-ordinate geometry, sequences, logs and exponentials, vectors, graphs and transformations.

 

Statistics

Probability, discrete random variables, working with large data sets, bivariate data, binomial distribution, hypothesis testing.

 

Mechanics

Kinematics, forces and Newton's laws of motion, variable acceleration

 

Further Maths students also study

-Complex Numbers, matrices, series, chi-squared tests, algorithms, networks, linear programming

 

 

 

Students studying A Level Maths study:

Core Maths

Functions, further calculus, trigonometric functions and identities, parametric equations, differential equations, numerical methods.

 

Statistics

Working with data, probability, statistical distributions, statistical hypothesis testing.

 

Mechanics

Kinematics, forces and motion, moments of forces, projectiles

 

Further Maths students also study
Series and induction, further calculus, polar coordinates, Maclaurin series, hyperbolic functions, first and second order differential equations, work, energy and power, momentum and impulse, centre of mass, circular motion, Hooke’s Law, modelling oscillations, oblique impact, normal and Poisson distributions,further hypothesis testing.
