Meet the Governors
Vijay Boothnath
Vijay was elected as parent governor in 2019 and is currently Chair of the Teaching & Learning Committee. He was previously a community governor in Castleview Primary School and also Chair of Teaching and Learning Committee. He also held the role of Data Protection Officer at that school.
Vijay is a resident of Langley and has two children at LGS. Professionally, Vijay works as a IT Senior Manager in a top Telecom/Media company in Slough. With his work experience he brings in strategic, finance and people management views to the Governing board.
Clare Brackenbury
Clare has been a Community Governor for over 15 years. A former student of the school, Clare has longstanding local interests, working in community health services (NHS) in Berkshire, specialising in working with the under 20 year olds, and as a magistrate on the Berkshire bench and is a member of the youth panel.
Clare sits on the Teaching and Learning Committee, the Student, Staff and Community Committee and is the named governor for Safeguarding and SEN.
Sarah Branquinho
Sarah is a Community Governor at Langley Grammar School and is Chair of the Pay Committee and also sits on the Student, Staff & Community Committee. She has served since January 2000 first as a Parent Governor, and previously chaired the Personnel Committee. She has a degree in Modern European Studies (Economics, Politics and Languages).
Sarah is External Affairs Director at Avolta, an international business and significant employer in the Heathrow area through its subsidiary, World Duty Free. She is responsible for stakeholder relations and maintains close links with Governments and regulators to protect and enhance business growth opportunities. Sarah is also President of the Duty Free World Council, and founder member and Chair of Women in Travel Retail, which offers career guidance and networking opportunities to women in the travel retail industry, and Chair of Lotus Flower Trust, a charity which builds schools and homes for disadvantaged children in remote villages in India. Sarah is a member of the Strategic Advisory Board of Loughborough University's School of Business and Economics.
Shiv Daddar
Shiv was appointed as a Community Governor in September 2022. Shiv was a former student of the school between 2001 and 2008. He studied law at the London School of Economics and is currently practicing as a senior solicitor in a pre-eminent international law firm.
As part of his career, Shiv often acts as a mentor to students and junior lawyers, with a particular focus on diversity and inclusion.
Shiv credits much of his achievements to the excellent foundation set by the school and is keen to contribute to the strategic direction of the school and the ongoing success of its students through serving on the governing board.
In his spare time, Shiv enjoys swimming, long walks and spending time with his family.
Claire Fitzgerald
Claire is a Community Governor appointed in March 2015 and is Chair of the Student, Staff & Community Committee. Claire was elected Chair of Governors effective September 2022 having served as Vice Chair since September 2018.
Claire, a former pupil of the school, was born in Langley and until recently was a long term resident. She studied law at Durham University and qualified as a solicitor with a very well established firm of local Solicitors where 30 years later she is now the senior partner.
Claire specialises in Children work especially where Social Services are involved and is a member of the Law Society’s Child Panel. She is also a Resolutions (a family solicitor’s organisation) accredited specialist in Domestic Abuse & Children Law. She is Chair of the Berks & Bucks Regional committee of Resolutions and a member of its Domestic Abuse National Committee. Claire actively supports & helps to fund raise for a local charity DASH (formerly East Berkshire Women’s Aid).
In her spare time Claire loves to take her dog on long walks & hopes to learn golf.
Roma Garrett
Roma joined the Governing Board in December 2011 as a Parent Governor and served as Chair of Governors from October 2015 until August 2018. Roma then served as a Co-opted Governor following the end of her parent governor term of office. She has been a member of the Pay and Resources & Audit and Student Staff and Community Committees. Roma was appointed as a non-attending co-opted governor from August 2021 in order to continue as a Member of the Academy Trust.
Roma's youngest son was a pupil at the school until July 2018, her eldest son was a pupil at the school between 2006 and 2013.
When not in school or at work Roma is an active member of the charity Pets as Therapy and attends a local primary school as part of the READ2DOGS initiative. She and her PAT dog also provide Animal Assisted Therapy to stroke survivors in conjunction with an Occupational Therapist in the London area.
Sundeep Gill
Sundeep was appointed as a parent governor in April 2024 and her son is in Key Stage 3 at LGS. She sits on the Resources Committee and brings over 30 years of experience in the education sector to the governing board.
Sundeep is an advisory teacher in a local authority virtual school setting, focusing on improving educational outcomes for Children Looked After and Care Experienced young people. She provides guidance on further and higher education, transitions and enrichment programmes through the wider curriculum.
She is also an experienced RE teacher, having held roles as Head of Department and Deputy Head of Year. Sundeep read Religious Studies with Philosophy at Middlesex University and completed a PGCE in Secondary Religious Education at the Institute of Education, University College London.
She has a firm belief in an inclusive learning approach that recognises all students as individuals, aiming to develop resilience, aspiration, respect and responsibility.
Sundeep enjoys walking; is a keen supporter of the National Trust and Kew Gardens and also plays tennis with her family and loves football.
Hussein was elected to the Governing Board in 2024. A former pupil of Langley Grammar School, he read Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge before embarking on a Consulting career in the City.
Hussain Hadid
Hussein is now an experienced PwC Director, advising business leaders on strategy, risk and transformation. His clients over the past decade include the world’s largest banks, top technology companies and UK government.
He divides his spare time between Surrey, where he has resided for 25 years, and Switzerland enjoying the great outdoors. He is also a keen fan of Formula One, supporting his local team McLaren.
David Harding
Mr Harding serves as an ex-offico governor in his role as Headteacher of Langley Grammar School. Mr Harding joined the school as Deputy Headteacher in May 2015 from his previous role as Assistant Headteacher in a school in Surrey. Until his appointment as Headteacher from 1 January 2025 he acted as an advisor to the governing board. Mr Harding is a geography teacher by background and maintains a keen interest in the subject. He read Geography at the University of Oxford before going on to complete a PGCE in Secondary Geography at Brunel University.
Tanya Hayes
Tanya was elected as a Staff Governor in May 2024.
Jack Kirk
A resident of Langley, Jack has been a governor for over 10 years, first as a parent governor and now as a community governor. He served as a committee chair and then a four year term as Chair of the Governing Board from 2018 – 2022.
Now retired, Jack read chemistry at Durham University, obtaining a PhD, and later gained further postgraduate qualifications in marketing. His career was mainly in the chemical and engineering industries latterly in global marketing management at a FTSE100 company, focussing on new product development and launches.
Jack attended grammar school himself; he represents the second of three family generations to have done so.
Grace Kelly
Grace was appointed as a community governor in September 2022. She was a former pupil of Langley Grammar from 2002-2009 and went on to study English and Drama at Loughborough University. She now works as a sports television director on the Premier League.
"My industry is predominantly male-dominated, and I work hard to promote diversity and inclusion through a number of panels and initiatives at work. I am also actively involved in several careers events, both at work, and at Langley Grammar and has taken on the role of the school's careers governor.
Langley Grammar gave me the foundations for my future study, and the skills and attributes which make me who I am today. I strongly believe that the school is responsible for equipping students for whatever further study or employment path they choose. I look forward to helping maintain the high standards and being a part of its ongoing success through my time on the governing board.
In my spare time, I love taking my dog out for long walks, reading, spending time with my family, and am currently trying to learn Spanish!"
Zarine Power
Zarine was elected as a Staff Governor in October 2022.
Rachel Scully
Rachel has 2 daughters at each end of the school and has been volunteering regularly over the past 5 years including STEM careers assemblies and a workshop for girls in STEM.
Rachel is a geologist by background and works as a geoscience technology manager at a major energy company and is keen to inspire the next generation whether that is in STEM or fulfilling their passions.
Rachel also leads the girls and ladies section at Maidenhead and Bray Cricket Club.
