Subject Leader – Modern Foreign Languages

Main and upper scale (London Fringe) + TLR 1a (£10,415)

Full-time, permanent.

We are seeking to appoint an skilled and effective Subject Leader for Modern Foreign Languages who can lead an experienced and committed team in a strong academic environment where languages are highly valued. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced classroom practitioner with the skills and ambition to take on a significant leadership responsibility. We can offer an exceptional working environment where staff, as well as students, thrive.

The successful candidate will be a skilled classroom practitioner with a track record of innovation and achieving excellent outcomes. They will be committed to the success of all our students and to fostering a love of languages. We welcome applications from current curriculum leaders looking for a career move, or from strong candidates seeking to progress to middle leadership.

Subject specialism

We offer both French and German from Years 7 to 13. The ability of our new Subject Leader to teach either French or German to A Level is essential and the ability to teach the other language to at least Key Stage 3 is advantageous. The Subject Leader is supported by an Assistant Subject Leader in the leadership of the department. Our planned staffing structure ensures that the two colleagues with leadership responsibilities comprise one specialist in French and one in German. Our current Assistant Subject Leader is a German specialist, and therefore external applicants should have the ability to teach French to A Level.

Langley Grammar School is a co-educational 11–18 selective school with academy status, located within easy reach of Langley station and the M4. We have approximately 1,280 students, over 370 of whom are in the Sixth Form. The school is heavily over-subscribed and draws students from a wide geographical area and a range of backgrounds. Alongside promoting excellent academic outcomes, our ethos supports students to become confident, well-rounded, independent, creative, responsible, and caring. Our students are capable, hardworking, and a delight to teach. We are a National Teaching School with a record of nationally recognised innovative practice and an Apple Distinguished School in recognition of our leading-edge use of technology for learning. In recent years, major building programmes have included the construction of excellent sports facilities, a distinctive Sixth Form Centre, new classrooms, workshops, laboratories, ICT suites, and communal areas. The school was last inspected in 2021 by Ofsted and was graded outstanding in all categories.

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Subject Leader for Geography to lead a committed subject team in a strong academic environment. Geography at Langley Grammar School is a popular, high-performing and highly valued subject. It is taught to all students in Years 7 to 9, with around 40% of students choosing to study it at GCSE. There is also strong uptake at A Level in the Sixth Form, and so the ability to teach to A Level is essential. The subject team is cohesive and experienced; there is a well-developed use of technology to enhance teaching and learning, and an extensive programme of fieldwork opportunities. We are looking for an enthusiastic, personable, and experienced Administrator to join our team and provide high-quality administrative support across multiple departments in this varied role. The successful candidate will be organised and able to manage competing priorities with a calm and professional manner.

We are seeking someone approachable, has excellent interpersonal skills, and demonstrates a proactive, ‘can-do’ attitude. A high level of literacy and accuracy is required, along with experience of using software such as Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and Excel to an intermediate standard. Enthusiasm and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team are key attributes for this role.

This is a term-time position, with the expectation of an additional five days during the school holidays. These holiday days will be arranged by negotiation to meet the operational requirements of the school.

The successful candidate will join a dedicated team of administrative staff within a friendly and supportive school community comprising approximately 1,280 students and 130 staff. We are seeking to appoint a suitably qualified, experienced, and motivated individual to take up the post of Finance Manager. This role will support the School Business Manager in all aspects of financial processes. The successful candidate will have a positive and flexible approach while managing a diverse and demanding workload and will be highly motivated, enthusiastic, analytical, and innovative. This role provides the opportunity to be part of a forward-thinking school with a friendly, supportive staff team, committed to providing an excellent education for every student.

The role will ensure processes are as efficient as possible and that management reporting is delivered on a timely basis to enable effective decision-making at all levels of the school.
