    Years 7-9

    During Years 7-9 the following topics are covered.

    Year 7 Year 8 Year 9

    Tableau, Mime and Caption

    An introduction to the drama physical skills and baseline assessment. Bringing to life a historical event through the techniques of tableau, mime and caption.

    Introduction to Scripts.

    An introduction to the drama vocal skills and script conventions. Exploration and performance of a short script Lost on Mystery Mountain.

    Physical Theatre

    An introduction to physical theatre and techniques used in this form of theatre. Creation of Living House performance.

    Mini-Production

    The realisation of a performance of the extended script; Rumpelstiltskin. Using all skills and techniques learnt throughout year 7 and touching on technical elements

    Introduction to Movement and Dance

    Building on students physical theatre skills, developing knowledge of rhythm and choreography and creation of short duet performance.

    Pantomime

    Exploring and physicalizing stock characters and using key Pantomime conventions to bring to life Cinderella as a pantomime performance. Including technical elements. Year 8 Theatre visit to see a Pantomime to inspire this work.

    Non-Naturalistic Theatre

    An introduction to devising and the non-naturalistic style. Creation and realisation of An Inspiring Person performance.

    Live/Technical Theatre

    Learning the role of the designers through snippets of Live Theatre and realisation of own design concept.    

    Exploring Scripts

    Exploring and realising short scripts/excepts from scripts Karawane, Macbeth and The Audition. Access naturalistic and non-naturalistic work. Focusing on development of physical and vocal skills and effective staging.

    Devising Original Theatre

    Building on devising skills developed in year 8, exploring how to access stimuli, developing non-naturalistic techniques and performance of original theatre.

    Live Theatre

    The watching of a piece of theatre and analysis and evaluation of the actors work.

    Student-Led Project

    Exploration of new forms of theatre, creating a project proposal and pitching project idea. Creation of excerpts of own theatre piece, including technical elements.

     

     

    GCSE

    Students studying the subject at GCSE follow the AQA specification

    During the course the following topics are covered

    Year 10 Year 11

    Component One: Understanding Drama

    Section A: Knowledge and understanding of Drama and theatre; roles and responsibilities, stage positioning, stage configurations.

    Section C: Live Theatre evaluation. Following watching a production, analysis and evaluation of the work of live theatre makers.

    Component Two: Devising Drama

    Process of creating devising drama and performance of a devised group piece.

    Component Three: Texts in Practice

    Performance of excerpts from a published play. Development of drama vocal and physical performance skills.

    Component One: Understanding Drama

    Section B: Study of one set text Blood Brothers and focus on four questions from a given extract.

    Component Two: Devising Drama

    Process of creating devising drama and performance of a devised group piece. Analysis and evaluation of own work. Performance and written devising logs. 80 marks/40 % of GCSE.

    Component Three: Texts in Practice

    Performance of two extracts from one play to a visiting examiner. 40 marks /20% of GCSE

    Revision: Component 1 Revising section A, B and C for Understanding Drama written exam. 80 marks/40 % of GCSE.

    A Level

    Students studying the subject at A Level follow the OCR specification

    During the course the following topics are covered

    Year 12 Year 13

    Practitioners in Practice

     

    Discovery and exploration of theatre practitioners. Applying the practitioners methodology to scripted excerpts and own devising work.

     

    Exploring Performance

     

    Section A: practical exploration of two performance texts on a chosen theme.

    Section B: analysis and evaluation of a live theatre performance.

    Process to Performance

     

    The study of performance by recording, observing, evaluating, analysing and participating in the performance process.

     

     

     

    Deconstructing Texts for Performance

    Interpretation and practical exploration of a performance text considering how to create, develop and direct a performance for an audience. Set text: Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. 60 marks/ 20% of A Level

    Practitioners in Practice

    Research and practically explore practitioners and the work of others to creating, devise and perform original theatre. Creation of Research report, performance and portfolio. 120 marks/ 40% of A Level.

    Exploring and performing texts

    Learners will explore one performance text as actors, bring an extended excerpt into fruition with the realisation of an artistic vision in their design and performance choices. Students will produce a Concept Pro-forma and perform to a visiting examiner. 60 marks / 20% of A Level.

    Analysing Performance

     

    Revision of Exploring Performance:

    Section A: practical exploration of two performance texts on a chosen theme.

    Section B: analysis and evaluation of a live theatre performance.
