Overview of comedies, tragedies and history plays. Addressing contemporary issues i.e. colonialism, anti-Semitism and feminism through Shakespeare’s plays.

Studying a novel

Studying and evaluating a whole novel. An exploration of the presentation of a character.

Fiction Writing

Dystopian fiction: exploring setting, characterisation and sensory language, using excerpts from dystopian fiction.

Non - fiction writing

Letter, speech, review.

Understanding the need to adapt content and tone to suit audience and purpose

A speech on a current issue.

The Gothic and Romantic genres

Learning about poetry and prose of the Gothic and the Romantic genres across time; writing in the style of a Gothic writer.

Learning how to approach a whole play, using aspects of war and conflict to support the study.

Mirroring the study skills needed to access the text at GCSE level.

Eduqas GCSE Poetry Anthology

To explore and analyse poems in the GCSE anthology in preparation for KS4. To introduce the SP play of study.

Practising and studying key writing and communication skills using a range of resources and stimulus (in preparation for GCSE English Language).
