Langley Grammar School was inspected by Ofsted in February 2026. 

Inspectors described the school as ‘aspirational and welcoming’ and noted that pupils ‘thrive’ here. The report recognises the strength of the curriculum and teaching across the school, stating that ‘teaching is highly effective’ and that pupils are ‘well supported in their learning through expert teaching.’ As a result, inspectors found that 'pupils, including disadvantaged pupils and those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, make excellent progress from their starting points.'

We were also particularly pleased that inspectors recognised the quality of relationships across the school, noting that ‘there are caring, mutually respectful relationships between staff and pupils.’ The report highlights that pupils are ‘self-motivated, independent and highly articulate’ and that they ‘consistently behave in an exemplary manner.’ Inspectors also found that pupils feel ‘safe, valued and included in all aspects of school life,’ and commented positively on the strong sense of community that exists across the school.

The report further recognises the work that takes place beyond the classroom. Inspectors found that ‘pupils are extremely well supported in their personal development’ and highlighted the ‘vast array of enrichment opportunities on offer’ both across the main school and within the Sixth Form. We were equally pleased that inspectors recognised the ambition of school leaders, stating that ‘leaders are highly ambitious for all pupils, consistently acting in their best interests.’ Also they found that, ‘the sustained impact of leaders' actions is highly evident in pupils' positive achievement, wellbeing and behaviour.’

Ofsted have introduced a new approach to inspection reporting. Schools are no longer given a single overall judgement such as ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’. Instead, reports now provide a more detailed evaluation across different aspects of school life.

Under the new framework it is extremely common to find ‘variable profiles,’ where different aspects of a school’s performance are rated at different grades. This is entirely expected and reflects Ofsted’s aim to give a more nuanced, detailed view of school performance rather than a single overall judgement.

Ofsted has stated:

• ‘It’s important to understand that the new grades can’t be compared to the old ones: this is a different approach to inspection and a new way of reporting to [parents].’
• The “expected standard” means that a school is doing everything that it should be doing and ensuring that children receive everything they need and deserve. The “strong standard” recognises excellent and consistent practice that is making a significant difference for children and learners.

Under this new framework, we are very pleased that the school achieved the “strong standard” for:

• achievement;
• attendance and behaviour;
• curriculum and teaching;
• leadership and governance;
• personal development and wellbeing; and
• sixth form provision.

The school achieved the “expected standard” for inclusion.

Inspectors recognised the strength of safeguarding across the school, stating ‘The school has an open and positive culture of safeguarding. All legal requirements are met.’

Inspection 2021

The school was previously inspected in November 2021, after a fourteen-year gap when schools that had previously been judged as 'outstanding' were exempt from routine inspection. We were delighted that that school was judged to be outstanding for overall effectiveness and in all five judgement areas - The quality of education, Behaviour and attitudes, Personal development, Leadership and management and Sixth-form provision. Inspectors commented on the warm relationships, exceptional achievement of students, and the collective passion to provide every pupil with the very best academic curriculum and personal development.

Inspection 2007

The school was inspected by Ofsted in March 2007, and was found to be outstanding in all categories. The inspectors particularly praised the school’s promotion of equality and concern for the individual student.

Following this outstanding judgement, the school was exempt from routine inspection until the Department for Education removed this exemption in 2020.  However, the progress and academic outcomes of students in all outstanding schools were closely monitored each year.
